ANSWER: I purchased this set for a gift and have given this as a gift numerous times. I always get to hear about the fun tea parties later from the recipients. I also purchased a set for myself to enjoy tea parties with grandchildren 8+ years ago and we have had numerous tea parties with them and serve hot cocoa or hot cider. I do not put it in the dishwasher and my set looks like new. The memories that have been made with this set are priceless. by Jack C 3/24/2012
ANSWER: Although we have not used this set for actual beverages, it does seem safe to do so. It is painted porcelain. I would feel comfortable drinking from this after hand washing the set. by Brent N 3/23/2012
